Giving you the Middle Finger – The Emmett Technique

The middle fingers on each hand can be used in lots of ways, can’t they? Yes, even when giving someone the “bird”.  Yet, these are the most important fingers for use in the Emmett Technique.

hShortCourseJuly2014

So, what is the Emmett Technique really about?

I first got introduced to the technique by a fellow Neal’s Yard Remedies consultant, and friend, called Claire.  I’d heard from the various ladies in our network that she had some “magic fingers” and how she’d helped to get rid of long-standing pain and body issues people had.

Back in May 2014, I was an Infinity Angel doing seated bamboo fusion massage at the Holistic Health Show at the NEC.  Before starting treatments, I’d got a niggling problem with my shoulder that I’d mentioned to Claire.  Well, that was it!  I was sat on a chair with her putting fingers on my back. neck and shoulders in a very light way.  I wasn’t actually ready for the relief when my body let go of the pain and niggles I’d had for months, if not years.  I also felt quite emotional, which is not unusual when you’re on the receiving end of this therapy.  After a few moments of quiet time and a walk round the hall, I was better than ever and ready for the day’s events, massaging lovely people at the show.

Soon after, I enrolled on the Emm-Tech short course to introduce key movements of the Emmett Technique so I could incorporate these into my therapies.  Then, in April 2015 I was so fortunate to be taught the first two Modules by the creator of the technique himself – Ross Emmett.  He’s the lovely man in the blue shirt and gold tie in the photo, and you may spot me at the front proudly holding my certificate.

EmmettModules1and2Ross

What a fantastic experience that was!  I had a massive emotional release all tied up with lower back issues I’ve had for years and had been made worse since my epidural having Amy in 2010.  My passion for Emmet was ignited and I made a decision to train and become a Practitioner before the end of 2015.  That dream has now come true and I am fully-fledged!

Over the past few months I’ve been treating clients, friends and family who have all benefitted hugely.  Do you have that niggling pain, that sore muscle, the injury from a while ago, the back problem that eats away at you, the knee that needs special care, the shoulder that’s always tight, the ailments from being pregnant – I could go on, but I won’t!  Basically, I have the tools treat you.  Fancy getting a fix?  Give me a call and I’ll give you my middle fingers…in the Emmett way, of course!

See you soon!

“Amanda has helped in a way no other medical therapy could!”

To receive testimonials like this makes it all worth while!

“I have always chosen a more holistic approach to my health and upon becoming pregnant and being new to the area, I was keen to find a therapist who could offer massage and reflexology to help me relax. After researching local therapists, I found Blue Owl Therapy.  Amanda and I discussed the variety of options available including a pregnancy massage and tailored reflexology sessions.  A full consultation was completed before treatment, which I found extremely reassuring.  I’d heard various things about how therapies needed to be carried out by a specially trained therapist and was fully at-ease with Amanda knowing she was qualified.

Amanda was keen to ensure that each treatment was effective yet enjoyable, letting me choose the Mother’s Balm to reduce any stretch marks, during treatment she would check I was comfortable and that pressure during the massages were to my liking. This resulted in my booking a further massage every time I visited, even one the day before my due date!!

Reflexology was also a very effective part of my treatment sessions with Amanda.  They were extremely enjoyable!  Amanda was also able to pinpoint and treat a variety of pregnancy related symptoms such as digestion issues arising from the iron tablets I was taking. I noticed improvements in these areas almost immediately!

Since my stomach muscles are very tight, which has some benefits but also disadvantages as well during pregnancy, Amanda incorporated a couple of moves from the EMMETT technique within my pregnancy massage, making my whole stomach seem a little bit ‘looser’ and me, plus baby, much more comfortable.

Overall, I would say that using Blue Owl Therapy to enhance and to improve my pregnancy has been a wonderful experience!  Amanda has helped in a way no other medical therapy could.”

Leamington Business Awards 2014

Wow!  What a journey since the announcement was made by Karen Massey during my first LeamTweetup meeting back in July 2014 at The Royal Pug.  Karen announced the first ever Leamington Business Awards were to be taking place in October 2014.  I instantly wanted to be a part of it.  Leamington is my home town, I have lived, studied and worked here all my life.  What an honour it would be to be included too.

Blue Owl Therapy was nominated and I asked my lovely clients for their votes and their feedback during August.  It was the day after I’d just won an award at NYR Organic that I’d found out I had been one of the three finalists shortlisted for the Health & Beauty category!  Oh my goodness!  A complete shock!  My fate was now in the hands of the four independent judges – Chris White MP; Chris Lillington, Editor of the Leamington Courier; Vicky Shepherd, Founder of Cologne & Cotton; and Sarah Tremellen MBE, Chief Executive and Founder of Bravissimo.

The lead-up to the Awards night was really making me nervous.  I was in with a chance of winning.  I’d been to my first ladies’ networking event in the day, Solihull Women’s Networking, and the ladies there asked me what my winning and losing faces looked like – I’d hesitated and said I’d rather not practice my winning face, just in case I automatically stand up to accept and then realise it’s not my name that’s being called!

It’s the first time I’ve ever been to an independent awards evening, apart from when I won Student of the Year at Warwickshire College in 1992 – yes, a long time ago!  So this was all new to me.  My lovely partner, Charlie, was being his usual wonderful self and calming me down whilst also sharing in the excitement of the whole event.  The Royal Pump Rooms were amazing!  A red carpet and Champagne reception on arrival, canapés and delightful singing by David Thomas.

Our table, Binswood Avenue, had other small business owners who were all great company – Jabberwocky, who have the most amazing gourmet toasties; YouNeek Productions, creating engaging videos for online marketing; and Shape Your Wardrobe, the best in helping you edit your wardrobe and personal shopping services – and we all enjoyed networking and understanding about our local businesses, and having lots of wine – well, rude not to, eh?

The event was sponsored by BPS – a local Leamington company that was regularly used by my fantastic father, the late Chris Woodhead, a superb local builder and carpenter.  So the Awards ceremony was underway – with the Health & Beauty category second on the list.  The Spa in Leamington had sponsored the award and Mark, the owner, was presenting it.  The finalists were announced, mine being the second company and cheers being shouted from our table.  There was a moment of quiet, then the winner was announced.  Oh my goodness – it was Blue Owl Therapy!!  I sat for a few seconds, startled, in shock, and then realised I had to go on stage to collect my award.  I hadn’t prepared.  I wasn’t supposed to win.  I was up against strong competition.  I grabbed the business card with a few memory joggers for a speech so I didn’t forget anyone.  It was all a bit too much – I desperately held back the tears so I could be poised enough to accept it.  Instead of a speech, I was interviewed.  It all happened so quick, thanks to Charlie for videoing it – you can watch and enjoy.

I never got the chance to formally thank everyone who had voted for me and left their wonderful comments, so I am taking this opportunity to do just that.  Thank you.  Really, thank you from the bottom of my heart.  My journey hasn’t been an easy one, at times I have questioned why I am doing this.  Inspired by by own experiences with therapies, the answer is simple.  I  love what I do and I love helping others.  If I can make a difference to someone that results in a positive effect then it’s all worth it.

Finalist in the Leamington Business Awards 2014!

LBA_Logo_Finalist (1)

Wow, wow, wow!  I am so pleased to announce that I have made it through as a FINALIST in the new Leamington Business Awards.  I am one of three chosen in the Health and Beauty category.  I made it through based on the average scores from my lovely clients who voted for me PLUS the outstanding comments they have given:

“The decision was also based on the positive comments you received from your customers. This means that you or your business has been scored highly by your customers for the quality of your service and/or product.”

The winners will be announced on Friday 17th October at the Awards Evening at the Leamington Royal Pump Rooms.  I am very humbled and honoured to have got so many votes and lovely feedback from my clients.  It will be an exciting evening and no doubt you will hear the celebrations if I win!

May 2014 Highlights – Infinity and Beyond

What a busy month and new adventures had! I was at the VIP area providing facials and massages at the Anti-Ageing Show in Olympia, London, working alongside other professional therapists, one of whom is an amazing lady – Gill Grigg – and is brilliant at what she does.  If you’re in the Quarry Bank area then please go and visit her http://www.maiatherapies.co.uk/ Gill is one of those very special therapists who will always make sure you are receiving the best treatment possible.  I’ve only known Gill since 2013, but I feel like I’ve known her all my life.  We love to have a giggle!AntiAgeing5

Both Gill and I were very honoured to be asked to provide the new Sticks and Stones treatment for Infinity Training Academy at the NEC recently too.  That was hard work – two full days of treatments, in the heat with hot stones and warm bamboo!  What a fab experience and can’t believe we still had enough energy left at the end of the show to dance like Fraggles to “Happy “by Pharrell Williams whilst all other stands were packing up!  It was a fantastic experience and hope to be able to do it again next year!  Check us out – photos are a bit blurry because we were moving a lot!!  Thanks to Sue Masters, Clare Stone, Scott Jasper and Lyndsay Palmieri.

I’m an Infinity Angel at Holistic Health UK 2014 at Birmingham NEC

On Sunday 18th and Monday 19th May I will be spreading my wings for the first time as an Infinity Angel.  I was very honoured to be asked to be only one of three therapists to showcase a new therapy for Infinity Training Academy at the Holistic Health UK Show.  It is a trade-only show and is also accompanying Nails UK, Beauty UK and Hair UK Shows. As an attendee to the show last year, before I embarked on my own business venture with Blue Owl Therapy, this was the first time I met Sue Masters of Infinity Training Academy and the inspiring and professional therapists who have trained at the Academy.  I knew this was the right decision for me at that point last year and have not looked back since!  And now, I get the honour of being an Infinity Angel myself!  Truly awesome.

Anti-Ageing Show, 10th and 11th May 2014 at London Olympia

What an amazing experience!  As an Independent Consultant for NYR Organic and a fully qualified therapist, I was asked to provide massage and facial treatments for the VIPs at the event.  I met some fantastic people and was able to give tailored treatments to help restore vitality and wellbeing.  Every client that had a facial using Neal’s Yard Remedies products left my treatment room with a renewed youthful and radiant glow.  I have never given so many treatments in a short space of time but it was fantastic to see the effects of what organic beauty can really do for skin.  If you haven’t tried a facial with me, get booked in and see for yourself!

Health & Wellbeing Weekend 3rd – 5th May 2014

Blue Owl Therapy has been very busy.  You may have seen me at Hatton Country World in the Events Marquee at the Health and Wellbeing Weekend, 3rd to 5th May 2014.  It was a super event and I managed to get outside to showcase my Bamboo Fusion Massage.  It was great being able to release client’s shoulders, reduce stress and restore wellbeing.  I had wonderful feedback and really enjoyed introducing the therapy to new clients as well as meeting some other charming therapists.
