In 2010 I decided to follow a passion of mine to study massage. I enrolled at college whilst pregnant, had my beautiful daughter in July, and started studying two months after. It was strange being back at the college I had graduated from some 18 years previous, but knew instantly it was the best decision I had made for a long time. I returned back from maternity leave to my full-time job in project management in early 2011 and then in June I had successfully gained my VTCT Level 3 Swedish Massage Diploma and Level 3 Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology.
Studying didn’t stop there! During my pregnancy, I had the most wonderful massages and wanted to give this blissful nurturing experience back to other expectant mums. I was using my skills treating my friends and decided to study Massage in Pregnancy and Childbirth. In October 2012, I gained my certificate and was able to treat friends who had become pregnant. It was fantastic being able to support their relaxation and have the knowledge and confidence to massage at such a special time in life.
During 2013, my career path came to a crossroad. I decided to give up my project management career for the opportunity to indulge in my passion for helping others. I’d seen the benefits and the results since qualifying as a massage therapist and this changed my life. I had been eager to expand my professional toolkit, knowledge and experience and attained a FHT Diploma in Manual Lymphatic Drainage; followed by a FHT Diploma in Indian Head Massage and a FHT Diploma in Thermal Auricular Therapy (Ear Candling).
Being in a learning and social environment where I was mixing with like-minded therapists confirmed this was the right path for me to follow. It was fantastic! My very willing case studies were giving me amazing feedback on their treatments and were also asking when I would set up my own therapy business. The opportunity to follow my passion and venture into the very scary, but exciting, path of self-employment is now a reality. December 2013 saw the launch of my very own business, Blue Owl Therapy!
Since then, I have studied very hard and achieved my VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology – engaging in some amazing experiences with my clients – and also trained in Easy Muscle Management (EMM-Tech).
In August 2014, I achieved an award for being in the Top 10 Independent Consultants at NYR Organic and rounded 2014 by coming 4th in the Top Ten for 2014.
In October 2014 I won Best Health & Beauty Business in the Leamington Business Awards, an amazing achievement after only 10 months in business and all voted for by my very lovely clients! Thank you!
My passion for study was reignited in early 2015. I’m very proud to now be a Practitioner in the EMMETT Technique and had the huge honour of being taught by Ross Emmett, the founder and creator, for my first two modules during April 2015. It’s fantastic to personally experience the benefits and changes to my body using the technique on my training modules and to see the results with my clients.
In October 2015 I made it as a Finalist in the Holistic Business Awards for Best Practitioner and attended an awards event in London. It was a great experience and glad to see I’m considered to be at the top of my profession by the Holistic, Health and Beauty industry.
